What’s the story with Memorial Hall?

In 2017 a group of local North Calais residents formed the nonprofit North Calais Memorial Hall Association to acquire and restore Memorial Hall. Restoration began in 2020 and was completed in 2023. Phew!

Can the Hall be rented for events?

Yes! The Hall can be rented May through October for full days (weekends or weekdays) or half days (weekdays only). Please contact us.

What are the rules for lake access?

The peninsula on which Memorial Hall sits is private property and is reserved for Hall events. As a service to the community, the Hall Association preserves a small section of shoreline along G.A.R. Road (marked by sign) for public lake access. Parking is available on the grassy strip across G.A.R. Road from the State Boat Ramp parking lot. (Parking at the Boat Ramp parking lot is for boat-launchers only! Game Wardens take notice!) Due to its narrow and winding nature, there is no parking along G.A.R. Road at any time. Alcohol, glass, trash, fires, dogs, and loud noise are not allowed at the lake-access area at any time.

What are the rules for the use of Mirror Lake?

Mirror Lake is an excellent pond for swimming and boating, but all property on the pond is privately owned. Please respect local landowners and stick to the water. The State has designated Mirror Lake a No-Wake Lake. Boats must observe a 5 mph speed limit.

What are the goals of the Hall Association?

  • To maintain the traditional uses of Memorial Hall.
  • To honor the sacrifices made by Calais veterans.
  • To serve the community by providing a gathering space that will strengthen bonds among residents.
  • To support well-managed, responsible access to Mirror Lake.

What will ensure the future of Memorial Hall?

You! The North Calais Memorial Hall Association needs you! Please join us. Let’s work together to keep this historic property and special landscape accessible to the community. Your contributions to save this landmark are needed to ensure that future generations can enjoy this historic gathering place and honor its legacy.
