With the help of federal grants, town and state support, and the donations of hundreds of individuals, North Calais Memorial Hall Association was able to complete its five-year restoration of Memorial Hall in 2023.
The scope of work included:
- Repairing the foundation, floor framing, and other identified structural deficiencies.
- Improving drainage, providing ventilation, and remediating mold.
- Rewiring the building for safe use and current-day needs, including the installation of a fire alarm.
- Renovating the kitchen.
- Updating plumbing and installing a drilled well for drinking water.
- Restoring windows and the two-story porch.
- Painting the interior and exterior.
- Providing ADA-compliant parking, access, lift, and restroom facilities.
- Adding a new, metal, code-compliant fire escape.
